Top 5 WordPress Plugins

If you run WordPress, you know what plugins are. Many times they can be used with sidebars that are widgetized and sometimes they cannot. But they seem to be one of the most popular features of WordPress and frankly, I can see why. I love them. I seriously couldn’t live without these plugins.

  1. Ultimate Tag Warrior - You can attach tags to your posts, as well as the categories that WordPress already uses. This can be extremely helpful when writing posts. It’s a great plugin and I use it each time I make a post.
  2. Sociable - This is a great plugin. It allows you to give your readers the option of sharing your posts with various social bookmarking sites. There are many, many sites to choose from, and you can choose which sites you want to display and allow your readers to send your posts to.
  3. Akismet - This one comes packaged with WordPress and requires a WordPress.com API key to activate it, but it’s the best spam protection I’ve found. Of course, even if you do use Akismet, you will still want to keep your comments moderated in case something slips past Akismet. The great thing is, if something does get past it, you can mark it as spam and Akismet will learn from it’s mistakes.
  4. Optimal Title - This is one of the best SEO plugins I’ve seen. It works like the basically_title() function, but it moves the title from the back of the line, e.g. Basically Geeky - Blog Archive - Top 5 WordPress Plugins, to the front of the line, e.g. Top 5 WordPress Plugins - Blog ArchiveĀ  - Bascially Geeky. This makes sure that when you search for your topic, the actual title of your article shows in search engines, not a cut off version.
  5. Popularity Contest - I love this plugin. It tells you how popular your posts are based on the other posts on your site. It goes by percentages. It’s really great to have.

In the future, there will be more posts concerning great WordPress plugins that I will feature here. I hope you enjoy these plugins as much as I do.
